It's a rather long drive over some rough tracks to get to Kverkfjöll, but it surely is one of the most exiting places in the highlands.
There are several interesting hikes  to be made, the daytour to the solfatares near the top of the peak being a highlight well worth the effort, especially by fair weather, when the views over the plain in direction of Askja may be seen. You have to cross the glacier, but the warden of Kverkfjöll cabin will surely provide the necessary safety trips.
